CASA MADRID
single family house | PROJECT: DIEGO GRONDA
Originally designed in 1961 by Francisco de Asís Cabrero, a pioneer of Spanish modernism, this 700 m² residence embodies a rational yet organic approach with exposed concrete, wood, steel, and brick. Recently restored by architect Diego Gronda, the project sought to preserve Cabrero’s architectural essence while adapting the home for contemporary living.
Key interventions included relocating the pool to create a reflecting surface beside the house, integrating discreet new systems, and restoring original details such as red steel beams, sliding wooden partitions, and Bauhaus-designed radiators. The result is a sensitive balance between heritage preservation and modern comfort, reaffirming the home’s unique blend of modernist rigor and Japanese-inspired spatial concepts.
